Written by Christine Batten, PHR | Dec 5, 2017 7:13:29 PM

Sexual harassment scandals are making headlines across the country. The list of those accused grows longer every day. While those in the news are mostly celebrities and politicians, sexual harassment situations can happen to any employer, regardless of size or industry. Take this opportunity to proactively prepare for – and hopefully avoid – costly lawsuits regarding harassment. Ways to do this include:

  • Making sure you have a harassment policy, that it’s up to date, and that you share it with your employees
  • Conducting harassment training for management
  • Conducting harassment training for employees

Sexual harassment can be as simple as repeatedly asking a person out for dates. It is necessary for everyone in your organization to be aware of all forms of harassment. This includes knowing the definition as well as how to report it and the steps needed to investigate and remediate all harassment situations in the workplace.

Any kind of harassment against employees, applicants or third parties based on race, age, color, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law is prohibited.
