Frank Winston Crum Insurance Company (FWCI) announces the appointment of Matthew Crum as President. He will assume the role previously held by Brian Boales who announced his retirement this year and will remain on the Board of Directors.
Crum has several years experience in a key leadership role for FWCI, most recently as Vice President of Insurance Operations. In the last five years, Crum has been instrumental in expanding the company, a privately-held workers’ compensation insurance carrier, from being a single-state carrier to one that is licensed in 31 states and the District of Columbia. Crum’s vision for the company includes continued geographical expansion and achieving an AM Best’s “A” rating. Currently, FWCI is B+ rated after only 10 years in business.
Crum helped lead a comprehensive effort to re-evaluate and strengthen the way FWCI operates from underwriting and claims handling to investment and market strategy. The company added a line of business, general liability insurance, and opened direct-market sales channels in 2010. Crum also founded FrankCrum Insurance Agency in 2008, which enables the company to serve its clients as a single source for all their commercial insurance needs. “We’re working to diversify responsibly, while steadily improving our stability as an insurance carrier,” stated Crum. “We have a team approach here and I’m surrounded by talented professionals who are guided by integrity and a long-term dedication to this business and to our clients. We have definitely seen an improvement in the market with both payroll and premium up across the board. This is a solid indication that our economy is getting stronger, slowly, but surely.”
“I have a lot of respect for Matt and the steady, concerted and humble way he has learned this business,” said David Yon, outside legal counsel for FWCI. “He has an excellent educational background; he thinks things through, listens well, and makes solid decisions.”
Crum will be awarded his MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Tampa in August of 2013. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in both Economics and Religion from Trinity College in Hartford, CT.
