Important Reminders for November

Voting Day
As Election Day approaches on November 3rd, employers should be prepared to handle requests from employees seeking time off to vote. While no federal law mandates voting leave, most states require employers to allow their workers time off for this purpose. In general, employees should have sufficient time to vote if they have at least a two-hour window before or after their shift and may not require time off from work. However, in some high-traffic voting areas, additional time may be necessary. Regardless of the state, employers should avoid corrective action against an employee who exercises their right to vote.

Veterans Day
Veterans Day is observed on Wednesday, November 11th. Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon and Tennessee require private employers to provide time off to veterans on Veterans Day. Employers may choose whether to provide paid or unpaid time off.
