The holidays are a special time of year when families are in town, people are taking vacation time, and there’s a scurry to cram errands into each day. From a business perspective, it is very easy for productivity to suffer.

Here are some ways employers can embrace the holiday season, and turn the holiday spirit into a great motivator.

  1. Don’t be the Grinch!
“Command and control” are no longer effective management styles in the workplace. Recognize the season, do not fight it!
  1. Employee appreciation outings
Employee appreciation outings are a great way to boost employee morale. Business tends to be slower on the days leading up to the holidays, so this is a great time to plan employee outings.
  1. Plan the New Year
Employees respond better to changes when they are informed about future developments and the direction of the company. Companywide meetings can be very effective at the end of the year. These meetings are a great time to give out awards and recognize greatness, reflect and celebrate the success of the past year as well as plan for the future.
  1. Catered meals
Some employees spend more hours with their coworkers than they do with their actual family. Create a holiday atmosphere and celebrate like you would with your family. Plan lunches together or cater meals while undertaking end of the year projects.
  1. Give back to the community
Encourage your employees to donate to charities of their choice, plan food drives, or sponsor a volunteer day. This will make your entire organization feel great as well as get into the holiday spirit.
